A focus on Nicolas Dixon
Nicolas Dixon is one of our Artillery artists, and we’re very excited to talk to you about him today.
We’re currently working with him on a project for a new restaurant in York (watch this space for more info on this very soon…) and we thought his work was too good to keep to ourselves.
We discovered Nicolas’ work by pure chance, whilst browsing the Internet to find new talents. And there he was, a gem on the web!
We got in touch and he instantly got back to us, very interested in our business and our projects.
As he was in lovely southern France at that time, working on a commission, we had to wait a week before we could finally meet him. We were really looking forward to meeting up with him, and we were not disappointed when he finally arrived.
Nicolas is a very talented and successful artist, but has kept his two feet on Earth. He’s such a friendly chap! In his amazing Leeds accent he talked to us about different commissions he had done in the past, and he’s done a lot of them! He has worked for the very first art hotel in Ibiza, Urban Spaces. He was also approached by Disney and Star Wars to paint a custom bb-8 droid to celebrate the new Star Wars Movie The Force Awakens to raise money for the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, at a stars studded auction. Alongside Nicolas, none other than Mark Hamill, the one and only Luke Skywalker, was also asked to paint a BB-8. How cool is that??
As an internationally well regarded artist he has also taken on commissions in Spain, France, and has featured in Marie-Claire US.
His presence is also very strong in the UK, with some work he has done in Liverpool, Birmingham, and some private commissions across the country.
He is very renowned in the underground music industry, for which he has done a lot of work, including a mural in The Garage nightclub in Leeds, a commission in The Rainbow nightclub in Birmingham, amongst others. He was even asked to create the visual landscape of the new label of multi-award winning producer and DJ Eats Everything.
As a Leeds born artist, it was an honour for him to be asked to create an 80ft mural in the heart of Leeds Kirkgate Market, Europe’s largest and oldest indoor market! It was the centrepiece of the popular event Leeds Light Night, which attracted 100,000 people in 2016, when the masterpiece was unveiled.
His work is modern, fun, lively, bright, happy, and spiritual and full of symbolism at the same time.
We love the simplicity of the graphics used, the vibrance of the colours, the purity of the lines.
No wonder he is so popular across the globe!
